Organ Sounds with Great Radiance in St. Jacobi

The 28th International Organ Days will bring festive organ music to the St. Jacobi Church in Göttingen on Sunday, November 1, 2026. From 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, the concert will combine historical sound tradition with the impressive acoustics of one of the most significant churches in Göttingen's city center.

A Musical Highlight for the Reformation Day Weekend

The concert is part of the 16th Bach Festival under the motto Reformation. The program includes the St. Jacobi Chamber Choir, the Jacobikantorei, soloists, and a Baroque orchestra. Together, they create a multi-faceted sound image in which the choir, orchestra, and organ merge into a festive musical architecture.

The Ott Organ as the Sonic Center

At the center is the large organ of the St. Jacobi Church. The instrument was built in 1966 by the renowned Göttingen organ workshop Ott and was expanded in 2007 by the organ workshop Siegfried Schmid. With 68 registers and 4,806 pipes on four manuals and pedal, it ranks among the largest organs in Lower Saxony.

A special tonal color is provided by three Spanish trumpets. The horizontally playing registers in the church room ensure a brilliant, festive sound and make the organ an extraordinary experience for lovers of sacred music.

Live Atmosphere Among Pipes, Voices, and Church Space

In the Gothic town church, orchestration, choral sound, and organ playing unfold with great spatial depth. Long reverberation times connect individual voices, while the synchronization of choir, Baroque orchestra, and organ maintains the musical tension. This creates a concert experience that appeals to both connoisseurs of historical performance practice and curious visitors.

An Internationally Renowned Concert Series

The International Organ Days are rooted in a long tradition of high-caliber organ music. Renowned organists such as Gaston Litaize, Michael Radulescu, Daniel Roth, Montserrat Torrent, and Helmut Walcha have already performed on the Ott organ. The regular organ music events in St. Jacobi have now experienced over 2,200 performances.

Conclusion: Experience Festive Music Live for Free

The concert on November 1, 2026, promises a concentrated hour full of choral sound, baroque tones, and great organ effects. Admission is free. Those who wish to experience the special live atmosphere of St. Jacobi, the tonal presence of the Ott organ, and the festive connection of choir and Baroque orchestra will find here an impressive Sunday morning in Göttingen.
