Organ Sound with Festive Radiance in St. Jacobi
On Friday, November 13, 2026, the St. Jacobi Church in Göttingen will open its doors for a free special concert of the 28th International Organ Days. Starting at 6 PM, a musical anniversary program for the St. Jacobi Foundation will be presented by Stefan Kordes at the large Ott organ.
World Premiere Meets Great Organ Tradition
The program includes the world premiere of Matthes as well as works by Johann Sebastian Bach, Franz Tunder, and Maurice Duruflé. The combination of Baroque sound architecture, colorful French organ music, and contemporary music promises a multifaceted concert experience with contrasting orchestration and precise conducting at the console.
An Instrument with a Vast Sound Palette
The organ, inaugurated in 1966 by the Göttingen organ workshop Ott, was expanded in 2007 by the organ workshop Siegfried Schmid. With 68 stops and 4806 pipes across four manuals and pedal, it is one of the largest organs in Lower Saxony. A unique sound feature consists of three Spanish trumpets, whose horizontal stops play directly into the church space, creating a radiant, festive sound.
Acoustics, Space, and Audience Atmosphere
In the historic St. Jacobi Church, reverberation, pipe sound, and stage performance merge into an impressive live atmosphere. Delicate registrations can unfold in the vast acoustics before powerful plenums fill the space with precise synchronization and monumental sound fullness. The Friday organ music concert series has been regularly held in St. Jacobi for years and has already experienced more than 2200 editions.
Free Admission and Especially Intense Live
The special concert begins on November 13, 2026, at 6 PM and is expected to last until 7 PM. Admission is free. Those who wish to experience organ music, church music, and extraordinary sound spaces directly will find in St. Jacobi an evening full of musical depth, historical references, and surprising timbres.
The audience atmosphere here is not created by grand show effects but through the immediate impact of the instrument: Every stop change alters the timbre, every chord moves the room acoustics. This concert is particularly worthwhile for anyone who wants to experience the queen of instruments in its full dynamic and emotional range.
Conclusion: Experience Organ Music in a Monumental Sound Space
The 28th International Organ Days combine premieres, Bach, Tunder, and Duruflé with an extraordinary organ installation. Admission is free – a strong reason to personally experience the concert evening in Göttingen and discover the special sound world of St. Jacobi.
