When the orchestra raises the curtain: göfonio brings music theater to Göttingen
On Sunday, November 8, 2026, the symphonic wind orchestra göfonio will transform the Free Waldorf School Göttingen into a stage for great emotions, dramatic soundscapes, and unforgettable melodies. Under the motto Curtain Up: Music Theater!, the ensemble takes the audience on a musical journey full of passion, brilliance, humor, and top-notch entertainment.
Opera drama meets Viennese charm
The program spans a wide arc from Richard Wagner's opera Rienzi to Giuseppe Verdi's dramatic sound language and Giacomo Puccini's famous Nessun dorma. Powerful brass, colorful woodwinds, and a precise percussion section shape the characteristic sound of the symphonic wind orchestra.
Lehár, Gershwin, and music theater with a wink
Between grand operatic gestures and subtle humor, göfonio opens up additional musical scenes: The Viennese charm from Im weißen Rössl meets the sparkling elegance of Franz Lehár's Die lustige Witwe. The Zirkusprinzessin adds extra brilliance to the orchestration, while George Gershwin's Porgy and Bess contributes jazzy colors and rhythmic tension.
Live atmosphere with symphonic power
The concert thrives on contrasts: velvety melodies alternate with striking tutti, and dance-like rhythms meet grand arcs of suspense. Under the direction of Holger Bertram, a stage performance is created where synchronization, dynamics, and musical direction bring the scenes of music theater to life without singing and acting.
An evening concert for opera fans and the curious
Whether Wagner connoisseurs, musical enthusiasts, or lovers of symphonic wind music: This annual concert connects well-known themes with the unique sound body of a symphonic wind orchestra. The audience's mood ranges from festive anticipation to the stirring finale – a concert experience for all who enjoy music directly and live.
