Göttingen Old Time Jam: When Banjo and Fiddle Bring the Kleine Ratskeller to Life
On Wednesday, November 18, 2026, the Göttingen Old Time Jam invites you to the Kleine Ratskeller starting at 8:00 PM. The open acoustic jam session connects traditional American old-time tunes with spontaneous improvisation, shared joy in playing, and an immediate live atmosphere.
American Tradition Meets Musical Moment
Banjo, fiddle, guitar, and bass shape the characteristic sound of the evening. Steady rhythms and catchy melodies form the foundation, while the musicians develop their pieces right at the moment. There is no predetermined order: each tune arises from the interplay of those involved.
Acoustic Sound with Room for Improvisation
The Old-Time Jam thrives on musical interaction rather than choreographed stage performance. Small variations, spontaneous entries, and improvised passages give even simple melodies a special dynamic. The intimate atmosphere of the Kleine Ratskeller makes every change in rhythm and every new voice in the ensemble immediately perceptible.
Join In or Simply Listen
Musicians with suitable instruments such as guitar, mandolin, banjo, violin, bass, or flute are welcome. The focus is on making music together. Those who do not play an instrument will experience the evening as an authentic concert experience with traditional folk music, lively audience atmosphere, and close proximity to the stage.
Conclusion: An Evening Full of Spontaneous Folk Energy
The Göttingen Old Time Jam promises no polished concert evening, but music with an open ending, direct communication, and genuine joy in playing. Those who love traditional American tunes, acoustic instruments, and spontaneous sessions will experience a special evening in the Kleine Ratskeller. Admission is free – come by, listen, and let the music unfold live.
