Göttinger Old Time Jam: When Banjo and Fiddle make the evening resonate

On Wednesday, October 21, 2026, the Kleine Ratskeller in Göttingen will transform into a vibrant meeting place for traditional American music. The Göttinger Old Time Jam begins at 8:00 PM and invites you to experience spontaneous live music, collective playing, and an immediate session atmosphere.

American tradition meets spontaneous stage performance

The focus is on Old-Time Tunes from the USA: simple, catchy melodies, a steady rhythm, and plenty of room for musical interaction. Banjo, Fiddle, guitar, and bass shape the sound, while singing and improvised variations from familiar structures create new moments.

Music in the here and now

The special appeal of the evening lies in the openness of the jam session. There is no fixed order and no clinically produced setlist. Instead, melodies, harmonies, and dynamics develop directly in the room. The synchronization of instruments, the interplay of voices, and the spontaneous orchestration make each session unique.

Listen or play along

The Göttinger Old Time Jam is aimed at musicians as well as curious concert guests. Anyone proficient with an instrument such as guitar, mandolin, banjo, violin, bass, or flute can participate in the collective playing. Those who prefer to listen will experience an authentic session with handmade sound and immediate audience atmosphere.

An evening for fans of folk and acoustic live music

In the rustic ambiance of the Kleine Ratskeller, a concert experience is created that fosters closeness: short musical dialogues, driving patterns, and melodies that evolve from round to round.

The Göttinger Old Time Jam demonstrates how exciting music sounds when it arises from the moment. Visitors can expect a free evening with acoustic instruments, American traditionals, and genuine session culture.
