Rebellious songs, new energy: Kai & Funky von Ton Steine Scherben live in Göttingen

On Friday, November 20, 2026, Kai Sichtermann and Funky von Ton Steine Scherben, along with Birte Volta, will perform live at EXIL live. music. club. in Göttingen. The concert connects the timeless radicality of Scherben with a contemporary, dynamic stage performance blending German rock, folk-blues, and rock’n’roll.

The Scherben live on

Ton Steine Scherben was founded in 1970 in West Berlin. Their songs still stand for attitude, self-determination, and a lived everyday radicalism with heart and ideals. Kai Sichtermann, a founding member and bassist since 1970, and Funky K. Götzner, who has been part of the band's history since 1974, continue to carry this musical core onto the stage.

Between folk-blues and German rock

Since April 2023, Birte Volta has been adding vocals and guitar to the duo. Her many years of street and stage experience, along with her roots in folk-blues, give the well-known songs a distinct color. Bass, cajón, guitar, and voice intertwine to create a direct sound that does not keep its distance.

Live atmosphere with attitude

At EXIL, the audience can expect an intense concert experience with familiar Scherben compositions, newly interpreted pieces from the repertoire of Rio Reiser and R. P. S. Lanrue, as well as a focused stage performance. The arrangements combine rhythmic precision with the raw emotionality of German-language rock music. Between clear synchronization, organic interplay, and immediate audience mood, a live atmosphere emerges that intertwines past and present.

An evening for old classics and new perspectives

The trio keeps the memory of a rebellious musical era alive without treating the songs in a museum-like manner. Birte Volta's voice and guitar playing open new spaces for the familiar songs, while Kai Sichtermann and Funky preserve the historical DNA of the Scherben. Thus, experience, musical expertise, and the energy of a small, immediate concert club come together.

Conclusion

Kai & Funky von Ton Steine Scherben feat. Birte Volta promise an evening full of attitude, history, and vibrant rock music in Göttingen. Those who want to not only hear the songs of the Scherben but experience their impact in the live atmosphere should not miss this concert at EXIL.
