When Mars becomes a resource depot: The finissage of Xenoform

On Sunday, October 4, 2026, the Göttingen Art Association invites you to the finissage of Xenoform. The exhibition by Nieves de la Fuente is the fourth part of the TRANSHUMAN series and connects contemporary art with questions about space travel, resource extraction, artificial intelligence, and ecological responsibility.

Art between terrestrial landscape and interplanetary future

The Spanish artist Nieves de la Fuente develops multimedia installations and digital imagery where familiar places take on a strange appearance. Her works traverse real landscapes, historical interventions, and speculative future spaces. Virtual reality, browser experiences, and augmented reality expand the traditional viewing of artworks with immersive and interactive levels.

Five work groups, a critical look at resources

At the center of Xenoform are five work groups: Bridge, No habrá servicio los Domingos ni en el cumpleaños de la Reina Victoria, Reliquia de las Disciplinas Geográficas, Night Companions, and ODD//FOES. They explore the history and future of mining as well as interplanetary navigation, which presupposes a possible colonization of space.

The atmosphere of the exhibition arises from the tension between materiality and digital imagination. Forms appear simultaneously archaeological and futuristic, while the installation raises questions of control, exploitation, and technological progress. The aesthetic experience thus becomes a political perspective on the artwork: Who owns resources, who shapes living spaces, and what are the consequences of the drive for unlimited growth?

Finissage with artist and museum director

For the grand finissage, artist Nieves de la Fuente and museum director Ina Neddermeyer will be present. The final exhibition day offers an opportunity to experience the works in the context of the curation by Stephan Klee once again with focus and to further contemplate the transhumanist discourse of the exhibition.

Cultural education and societal dialogue

Xenoform understands contemporary art as a place for cultural education. The exhibition links art history, media art, ecology, and technology, opening up a critical dialogue about the societal conditions of technological innovation. In accompanying educational projects, it has already been examined how landscapes become readable as archives of human interventions, power relations, and political decisions.
