The Search for Light: Egbert Krause-Wessel's Radiant Visual Worlds

On Sunday, October 18, 2026, the Torhaus Gallery Göttingen invites you to the exhibition The Search for Light. At the center is the multifaceted work of the artist Egbert Krause-Wessel, whose painting oscillates between abstract form, inner landscape, and sensual materiality.

Light as a Painterly Material

The exhibition showcases a selection of works from the period since 1980. Resin oil glazes on cardboard, silk, and gold leaf give the images a special depth. Transparent color layers, reflective surfaces, and finely graduated structures allow light to appear not only as a motif but as an active component of the composition.

Fantastic Formations and Open Image Spaces

Egbert Krause-Wessel focuses on extraordinary structures and fantastic formations. His works open image spaces where more can be recognized than the immediately tangible. Color fields, overlays, and organically appearing contours encourage personal contemplation and blur the boundaries between abstraction, nature association, and inner imagination.

A Diverse Artistic Development

In addition to the resin oil glazing technique, the artistic creation includes works in pastel, watercolor, graphite, and charcoal. Printmaking on gold leaf and silver leaf as well as sculptural works are also part of his oeuvre. The exhibition makes this continuous search for form, color, and luminosity an intense artistic experience.

Torhaus Gallery as an Atmospheric Exhibition Space

The historic Torhaus Gallery creates a serene setting for the immediate encounter with the originals. In the changing light of the gallery space, the transparent glazes and metallic shimmering image carriers unfold their special effect. The stage experience here gives way to the quiet theatrical atmosphere of the exhibition space: Seeing, lingering, comparing, and developing one's own associations shape the visit.

Conclusion: An Invitation to Conscious Seeing

The Search for Light promises an intense examination of the works filled with depth, color, and open forms. Visitors can expect an exhibition that presents painting as a sensual experience and as an ongoing artistic search. Admission is free – an opportunity to discover Egbert Krause-Wessel's radiant visual worlds live in Göttingen.
