The Search for Light: Egbert Krause-Wessel's Images Between Color and Imagination

In the Torhaus Gallery Göttingen, The Search for Light opens a quiet yet tension-filled art space. The exhibition of Egbert Krause-Wessel showcases a selection of his works since 1980 and invites visitors to experience painting and drawing as a journey into hidden image worlds.

When Color Becomes Perception

At the center are works created primarily using resin oil glaze technique on cardboard, silk, and gold leaf. Layer by layer, the color gains depth; light does not seem to rest solely on the surface but emerges from the image space itself. The special materiality gives the works a changing, almost tangible presence.

Fantastic Formations and Extraordinary Structures

Egbert Krause-Wessel focuses on appearances that reveal more than the surface visibility. Fantastic formations, organically appearing structures, and open image spaces unfold their own dramaturgy. Each work becomes an invitation to understand perception not as a finished answer but as a continual search.

A Visit to the Exhibition as a Stage Experience of Silence

The Torhaus Gallery creates the atmospheric framework for this encounter with the visual arts. Unlike in theater, the audience's reaction arises here from slow contemplation: The eye wanders, discovers transitions, and follows the traces of light, glaze, and form. The theatrical atmosphere of the historical site combines with the contemplative power of the exhibition.

Conclusion: Art That Changes the Gaze

The Search for Light promises a concentrated stage experience for the eyes and an inspiring dialogue with painting and drawing. Those who engage with the multi-layered surfaces, the luminous materials, and the open image ideas experience art as a lively movement between the visible and the mysterious. Admission is free – a great opportunity to discover the exhibition on November 7, 2026.
