Forum Wissen Award 2026: Making science visible and celebrating excellent communication
On Thursday, November 12, 2026, the art of science communication will take center stage at Forum Wissen Göttingen. The Forum Wissen e. V. will present the Forum Wissen Award 2026 during a public event, honoring outstanding achievements in the accessible, innovative, and pedagogically convincing communication of scientific content.
An evening for science, dialogue, and inspiration
In the foyer and café of Forum Wissen, the audience can expect a ceremonial award presentation in a special atmosphere. The award connects scientific excellence with social responsibility: Scientists who make research accessible, spark curiosity, and open new pathways in science communication will be honored.
The event is aimed at knowledge enthusiasts, students, researchers, educators, and anyone who wants to experience how research is communicated understandably and vividly. The event combines festivity with professional exchange, making visible the contribution that good science communication makes to an open society.
An award with Göttingen history
The Forum Wissen Award was established at the initiative of the Forum Wissen e. V. to commemorate the 225th anniversary of the death of physicist, natural scientist, and mathematician Georg Christoph Lichtenberg. The prize consists of a specially designed Lichtenberg bronze figure by sculptor Ulrich Mekiska and is endowed with 5,000 euros.
The sculpture gives the award a special visual presence. It symbolically represents the ambition to not only collect knowledge but to make it tangible, understandable, and accessible to many people.
From the Friends' Association for a vibrant science culture
The Forum Wissen e. V. was founded in 2017 by engaged citizens in Göttingen. Since 2024, the association has been awarding the Forum Wissen Award, thereby supporting the connection between the university, the local community, and interested public.
The event planning follows a clear objective: science communication should become visible as a central component of modern research. The event management of the evening creates a public framework in which recognition, exchange, and inspiration come together.
Public event with registration
The award ceremony begins on November 12, 2026, at 6:30 PM and will take place at Forum Wissen, Berliner Straße 28. Participation is free of charge. Since the number of seats is limited, prior registration is requested. For questions, the Forum Wissen e. V. can be reached at foerderkreis@forum-wissen.de.
