Film Art at MÉLIÈS: A Special Cinema Evening in Göttingen

On October 14, 2026, the MÉLIÈS cinema in Göttingen will open its doors for a carefully curated film program. At 5:30 PM, an evening of films begins that combines the concentrated atmosphere of a program cinema with the unique character of a historic venue.

Program Cinema with Attitude

The MÉLIÈS stands for selected film art away from the mainstream. The Film and Cinema Initiative Göttingen e. V. shapes a vibrant cinema culture here with arthouse films, special events, and unique film series. The dramaturgy of the evening arises from the combination of careful film selection, large screen, and shared audience reactions.

Historic Set Design for Moving Images

The cinema hall is located in a lovingly converted former Baptist church on Göttinger Wall. The preserved timber-framed structure of the church nave creates a distinctive theater atmosphere: warm architecture, clear acoustics, and a focused lighting mood accompany the film experience. Modern cinema technology meets the charm of a historically significant space.

An Evening for Film Enthusiasts

The Méliès cinema program is aimed at all who experience film not as casual entertainment but as a cultural stage experience on the screen. The focus is on attention to the individual work, proximity to the audience, and that quiet tension that spreads just before the beginning of a screening in the hall.
