Film Art with Character: The Méliès Cinema Program in Göttingen
When the lights dim in the MÉLIÈS cinema, an evening begins for people who understand film not as mere entertainment but as a concentrated stage experience on the screen. The Méliès Cinema Program invites you to a carefully curated film evening on October 16, 2026, at 5:30 PM in Göttingen.
Arthouse Cinema instead of Indifferent Mainstream
The cinema MÉLIÈS stands for sophisticated film culture, special series, and a selection beyond the ordinary. The film and cinema initiative Göttingen e. V. shapes a vibrant program cinema landscape together with the cinema LUMIÈRE, where original versions, short films, silent films with live music, and audience discussions find their fixed place.
An Atmosphere between Silence and Tension
The historic character of the building gives the evening a unique theater atmosphere. In the darkened hall, the set design and lighting mood of the film meet the concentrated acoustics of the cinema space. The audience experiences stories together yet in a very individual way - with that special audience reaction that occurs when a moment of suspenseful silence lingers after the credits.
Dramaturgy, Acting Skills, and Cinematic Precision
The Méliès Cinema Program focuses on the power of staging: on dramatic arcs, nuanced acting, precise directing, and images that linger long after. The program cinema understands film as an independent stage art and creates a place for cinematic discoveries, cultural exchange, and intense screen experiences.
Practical Information for the Cinema Visit
The show begins on Friday, October 16, 2026, at 5:30 PM. Admission starts 30 minutes prior. The cinema MÉLIÈS is located at Bürgerstraße 13 in Göttingen and is accessible by public transport.
