Film Art with Atmosphere: The Méliès Cinema Program in Göttingen

On October 20, 2026, the MÉLIÈS cinema in Göttingen invites film lovers to a special evening. The Méliès Cinema Program combines carefully selected film screenings with the concentrated atmosphere of a traditional program cinema.

Arthouse Cinema with Its Own Character

Away from the anonymous multiplex experience, the MÉLIÈS cinema stands for sophisticated film culture, special materials, and engaging programming. The Film and Cinema Initiative Göttingen e. V. together with the Lumière cinema maintains a cultural profile that includes original versions, film series, short films, silent film events with live music, and audience discussions.

A Stage Set of Light, Screen, and Shared Attention

The cinema hall will become a dark stage on this evening: light extinguishes everyday life, the screen opens a new scene, and the acoustics bring every sound directly into perception. Between the opening credits and the closing credits, the special theater atmosphere of the program cinema is created, where the audience's reaction is as much part of the experience as the cinematic dramaturgy.

Cultural Venue in Göttingen City Center

The MÉLIÈS is located at Bürgerstraße 13 and is easily accessible as an urban cultural venue. The barrier-free access makes it easier for many guests to visit. Free parking is available a few minutes away at the New Town Hall in the evenings. The box office is open daily from 5:00 PM to 8:30 PM and opens outside of this time window half an hour before the start of the respective screening.
