Film Art with Atmosphere: The Méliès Cinema Program in Göttingen
On October 21, 2026, the MÉLIÈS cinema in Göttingen will once again transform into a focused place for demanding film culture. The Méliès Cinema Program begins at 5:30 PM and invites you to a special cinema evening away from the mainstream.
Cinematic Art with a Stance
The MÉLIÈS cinema stands for carefully curated arthouse films, international film art, and thematic series. The film and cinema initiative Göttingen e. V. shapes a vibrant film culture centered around direction, acting, visual language, and dramatic quality.
An Intense Stage Experience in the Cinema Hall
Even before the film starts, a special theater atmosphere arises that distinguishes the Méliès from an anonymous multiplex: dimmed light, tense silence, and an audience that attentively engages with the screen. The acoustics of the hall, the focused projection, and the proximity to the film's action create a sensory stage experience for cinephiles.
Film Art Away from the Mainstream
The Méliès presents numerous award-winning films as well as works in their original language, film series, and special programs. The selection caters to guests who experience cinema as a cultural expression and are open to new perspectives, precise directorial works, and strong imagery. Each screening develops its own dramaturgy, supported by light, editing, acting, and immediate audience reactions.
Well Prepared for the Cinema
Entry begins 30 minutes before the start of the screening. The cinema box office is open daily from 5:00 PM to 8:30 PM; tickets are also available online. The cinema has barrier-free access. Public parking is available nearby, including the parking lot at the New Town Hall.
Conclusion
The Méliès Cinema Program promises an atmospheric evening on October 21, 2026, for all those who wish to experience film as a sophisticated stage art. Those who appreciate arthouse flair, careful dramaturgy, and shared cinema experiences should not miss this date in Göttingen.
