Music, Remembrance and Hope: The Long Night of Remembrance in Göttingen
On November 9, 2026, the Jewish House of Learning Göttingen together with the Society for Christian-Jewish Cooperation invites you to a special memorial concert. The Göttingen project orchestra KlezPO will create an evening at the Ev.-Reformed Community that connects Jewish tradition, historical responsibility, and the power of shared music.
Klezmer and Jewish Tradition at the Center
Under the direction of the new conductor Ditmar Wiederhold, a program featuring songs and psalms from the Jewish tradition as well as works from various cultures will be performed. The musical selection spans from Jewish culture and remembrance to experiences of persecution, loss, and hope.
A Concert Against Forgetting
The Long Night of Remembrance honors the victims of the Reich Pogrom Night as well as those who suffered and continue to suffer under anti-Semitism, war, and violence. In the acoustic proximity of Klezmer, singing, and orchestral sound, a concert experience is created that does not remain in the past but formulates a clear message for humanity, solidarity, and reconciliation.
From Remembrance at the Memorial to Music
The concert follows the memorial service at the memorial of the former synagogue, which begins at 6 PM at Oberen Masch 10. The walking connection between the memorial service and the concert makes the evening a coherent sign of remembrance and responsibility in the present.
Live Atmosphere with Social Significance
When KlezPO brings together its voices and instruments, musical orchestration, precise synchronization, and expressive conducting meet the concentrated audience mood of a memorial evening. The music allows space for mourning, reflection, and hope and makes history immediately tangible.
The 25th Long Night of Remembrance connects historical context with an impassioned stage performance. Visitors can expect not an ordinary concert evening, but a shared pause with Jewish music, cultural diversity, and a strong stand against hate and exclusion.
Conclusion
The memorial concert with KlezPO invites you to listen, remember, and take responsibility for a peaceful future. Admission is free, donations are welcome. Experience the Long Night of Remembrance live in Göttingen on November 9, 2026.
