TRANSHUMAN N°5: Dysis – Art on the Threshold to a Posthuman Future

With TRANSHUMAN N°5: Dysis, the Göttingen Art Association presents an international group exhibition on the transition from the anthropocentric human to the technologically optimized transhuman and further to the posthuman in the Old Town Hall. Twelve artistic positions meet in a curatorially staged landscape of the future, where relics of human activity, deformed objects, and traces of past civilization open up an intense aesthetic experience.

An Exhibition as a Twilight Space

The title Dysis comes from Ancient Greek and refers to decline, west, and twilight. These fields of meaning shape the atmosphere of the exhibition: The works appear as testimonies of a world after the end of our current civilization. In the 320 square meter spaces of the Old Town Hall, a liminal state arises between past and future, familiarity and strangeness.

Scultpures, Installations, and Traces of an Abandoned World

The examination of the works leads through a spatial network of sculpture, installation, video, and object art. Simon Faithfull presents with Reenactment for a Future Scenario no. 2: Cape Romano the flooded holiday resort of an oil engineer. Bastian Hoffmann's melted Porsche engine refers to the fragility of technical power. Stella Geppert lets the traces of physical labor freeze, while Birte Bosse stages broken concrete reinforcements as architectural relics. Astali/Peirce complement the scenario with a mineralized T-shirt, which tells of the human body only indirectly.

Art Historical Classification and Critical Perspectives

The exhibition is part of the two-year program TRANSHUMAN > POSTHUMAN of the Göttingen Art Association. It focuses on the acceleration of technological development, capitalist growth, and the biotechnological optimization of body and mind. The art direction of contemporary transhumanism is not presented affirmatively, but deconstructed through artistic counter-images, material-related investigations, and socio-critical questions.

Curatorial Dramaturgy and Cultural Education

Curated by Stephan Klee, Dysis brings established international positions into new relationships with remarkable discoveries. The exhibition understands itself as a place of cultural education and open discourse. Guided tours, Sunday tours, a long afternoon of art with a panel discussion, and a finissage deepen the engagement with the displayed works and the future questions of the exhibition.

Conclusion: An Art Experience between Apocalypse and Departure

TRANSHUMAN N°5: Dysis welcomes visitors with a compelling combination of painting, sculpture, installation, video, and object art. The exhibition makes the epochal change sensually tangible and invites contemplation on technical optimization, ecological consequences, and the future of humanity. Anyone wanting to experience contemporary art as an aesthetic experience and social reflection should definitely visit this unique art experience at the Old Town Hall Göttingen live.
