An Afternoon Between Dusk, Change, and Questions of the Future

The Long Afternoon of Art invites you to the Old Town Hall of Göttingen on November 8, 2026. The focus is on TRANSHUMAN N°5: Dysis, the large group exhibition of the Göttingen Art Association featuring twelve international artistic positions. The free afternoon combines panel discussions, guided tours, and open exchanges regarding changes in art, society, and the cultural landscape.

Art at the Turning Point of Epoch Change

The exhibition title Dysis refers to the ancient Greek goddess of sunset and simultaneously denotes the west, twilight, and transition. This threshold mood shapes the curatorial dramaturgy of the exhibition. The presented works design an imaginary world at the crossroads of transhumanism and posthumanism, where technological acceleration, societal crises, and the relics of human civilization are reexamined.

Panel Discussion on Art in Times of Crisis

From 3 to 4 PM, Delia Jürgens, an artist in the exhibition, Nils König from the board of the Art Association Göttingen, and Holger Fricke, managing director of the Kunsthaus Göttingen, will discuss how crises change the cultural landscape. Stephan Klee, curator and artistic director of the Göttingen Art Association, will moderate the discussion.

The focus will be on digital images, social media, and artificial intelligence as well as the crisis of democracy, culture wars, and budget cuts. The discourse bridges the speculative visions of the future presented in the exhibition to the concrete conditions of cultural work in Southern Lower Saxony.

Artwork Analysis Between Installation, Video, and Object Art

The exhibition gathers works by Astali/Peirce, Birte Bosse, Simon Faithfull, Olga Fedorova, Stella Geppert, Bastian Hoffmann, Virginie Ittah, Delia Jürgens, Felix Kiessling, Frederik Marks, Aline Schwörer, and Geerten Verheus. Among the exhibited works are Simon Faithfull's video piece Reenactment for a Future Scenario no. 2: Cape Romano, Astali/Peirce's Monobloc, Stella Geppert's Snow Leopard Track, and Aline Schwörer's Shells of unwritten times.

The aesthetic experience arises from the interplay of image, space, material, and conceptual projection. Painting, sculpture, installation, video, and object art open different accesses to an art that not only illustrates technical future scenarios but also critically questions the position of humans within a changing world.

Curatorial Tour and Cultural Education

From 5 to 6 PM, Stephan Klee will lead a bilingual Walk and Talk in German and English through the exhibition. The tour deepens the analysis of works, explains the curatorial concept, and creates space for questions. Afterward, the afternoon will conclude until 7 PM with personal conversations and further exchanges.

Conclusion: Contemporary Art as an Open Space for Thought

The Long Afternoon of Art offers a concentrated art experience between exhibition atmosphere, societal debate, and sensory artwork analysis. Visitors will experience TRANSHUMAN N°5: Dysis as a place of cultural education, aesthetic experience, and mutual reflection. Admission is free – an excellent opportunity to discover the exhibition live and engage in discussions about the future of art and society.
